Overview Naval Architect - Kiewit Infrastructure Engineers This position is based out of New York City offices, with travel to Cranford, NJ marine yard. Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering has an opening for a dynamic Experienced Naval Architect/Engineer in our Construction Engineering Services (CES) Group to support our fleet of vessels. The ideal candidate will perform innovative design engineering, review structural calculations, develop plans, schedule tasks to meet client needs, and mitigate risk to keep construction crews safe. This role involves working directly with construction teams to modernize existing vessels and construct new ones. Responsibilities Perform design reviews and evaluate constructability. Independently perform conventional engineering work and may handle more complex tasks with higher-level supervision. Conduct technical evaluations of structural analysis and load calculations to ensure sound designs and compliance. Plan, schedule, conduct, or coordinate detailed phases of engineering work on major projects or moderate scope projects. Perform work involving conventional engineering with potential for complex features such as conflicting design requirements and difficult coordination. Design and prepare engineering reports and related documentation; devise charts and graphs to record results. Utilize computers (including Microsoft Office) to review data, transfer files, and manage engineering documents (physical and electronic). Resolve technical issues and manage information across design and construction phases for multiple projects; apply broad knowledge of precedents in the specialty area and related practices. Collaborate with junior and senior engineers to create vessel designs and research compliance specifications and issues, including hull structures, hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, stability, and seakeeping. Interface with classification societies and USCG to attain and maintain class and load line certificates for various vessels. Manage weight control during vessel modifications; perform deadweight surveys and inclining experiments as needed. Survey existing vessels to determine scope of repair and maintenance; perform or oversee hull design for repairs, modifications, or new equipment loading. Analyze vessel stability for cargo, crane operations; develop load capacity charts for derrick barge and mobile cranes on barges. Provide engineering support for hull outfitting and marine equipment (cranes, mooring systems, electrical/hydraulic systems, piping, ventilation, etc.). Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Naval Architecture or related field (required). Marine background and experience required. Professional Engineer licensure or eligibility in the United States. 8+ years of marine/naval engineering experience preferred. Ability to analyze and interpret hydraulic, electrical, mechanical systems; familiarity with ABS, Lloyds, DNV, USCG regulations. Experience working with classification societies and USCG to ensure vessel compliance. Knowledge of structural, mechanical, and electrical marine systems. Strong foundation in structural engineering; experience with AutoCAD, BlueBeam, MathCAD, Navisworks, RISA-3D, MOSES, or similar tools is advantageous. Team-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and travel or relocate based on business needs; able to access construction sites in various environments. Other Requirements Regular, reliable attendance and ability to meet deadlines. Effective communication with supervisors and team members; work safely following instructions and policies. Flexibility to work during normal hours; overtime and weekend work as required. May work at various locations; conditions may vary. Compensation and Benefits Base Compensation: $115,765 - $160,170 (Actual compensation varies by education, experience, skillset, and location).
