The Managing Attorney performs highly complex and/or supervisory (senior-level) legal work providing direction and guidance to management and legal staff of a Child Support Field Office. Work involves organizing employee work assignments, interpreting laws and regulations; and providing legal advice, counsel and assistance in representing the states interest in child support enforcement. CSD AAGs are part of a collegial statewide team dedicated to supporting Texas children and families. Responsibilities
  • Represent the State of Texas at legal proceedings.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, and monitors office performance and takes corrective actions to achieve assigned goals and objectives.
  • Supervises all office personnel, including hiring, evaluating, counseling, and training under the direction of the Regional Director.
  • Supervises office legal processes under the direction of the Senior Regional Attorney.
  • Supervises and monitors the office budget.
  • Monitors and ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, policies, procedures, and standards while providing excellent customer service.
  • Responds to inquiries and resolves issues from agency management, government officials, attorneys, parents, advocacy and community groups and other customers.
  • Serves as primary office legal counsel.
  • Develops and delivers training.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
  • Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions.
  • Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule.
  • Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
  • Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree.
  • Experience: Four years of full-time experience in law, including two years in Family Law; licensed attorney in Texas; in good standing with the State Bar of Texas and eligible to practice by start date.
  • Knowledge: Family Law and the Texas Family Code.
  • Skills: Legal writing, mediation, negotiation; trial advocacy; legal research; word processing and data entry; multitasking, prioritization, and meeting deadlines; effective oral and written communication; sound judgment and decision making.
  • Ability: Receive and respond positively to constructive feedback; work cooperatively in a professional office; provide excellent customer service; perform in-person work at the assigned OAG location; arrange for personal transportation for business travel; work overtime as needed and in compliance with FLSA; lift and relocate 30 lbs; travel up to 25% (including overnight).
  • Preferred Qualifications: Texas Child Support Program experience; experience handling a high-volume legal practice; management experience; bilingual abilities in Spanish.
